SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team started the 2019 season with a pair of sweeps Friday afternoon. CSB beat both Neumann and Minnesota-Morris 3-0 in the first day of the Trinity National Invite in San Antonio, Texas.
After beating Neumann to start the day, CSB picked up a big regional win against Minnesota-Morris – a team Saint Benedict (2-0) split with last season. Stats were not available immediately following the UMM match.
CSB started the day – and the season – with a 3-0 sweep of Neumann in its first tournament match of the day. Saint Benedict won 25-13, 25-14, 25-14, and used a solid start in each set to cruise to the sweep. CSB led 20-9 late in the first set, and built an 18-9 lead in the second set in route to the wins.
Hunter Weiss finished with a game-high 15 kills in the Neumann match, and she also had three blocks.
Madison Weiss had six kills and five blocks, and first year
Maurissa Isaacs led the team with 12 digs, and she also had five kills.
Katie Koch had 31 assists, and
Mary Wenisch also had 11 digs for the team. CSB had 40 kills to Neumann's 22 and a .326 hitting percentage.
Saint Benedict has another big day of competition Saturday as it takes on a pair of ranked teams in Mary Hardin-Baylor and host-school Trinity. MHB entered the preseason ranked 15
th in Division III, and Trinity sits at No. 17.
