CSB hockey takes on top-ranked Tommies

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After a loss and tie in last weekend's series with conference opponent Augsburg University, the College of Saint Benedict hockey team gets back in action this weekend with two games. CSB plays University of St. Thomas – currently ranked No. 1 in Division III – Friday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in St. Cloud and Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. in St. Paul.
 
About the Tommies
St. Thomas has a record of 19-0-2 overall and the top MIAC record of 12-0-2. The undefeated Tommies are ranked No. 1 overall in Division III, and coming into the series after a 5-4 victory at fourth-ranked UW-River Falls on Wednesday. Rachel Werdin and Anna Solheim are tied for fourth in the MIAC with 10 goals. Maddy Fielder and Shae McLean lead the team with 18 points each. In goal, Mackenzie Torpy leads the conference and is third in the nation with a .965 save percentage, .950 win percentage, and 0.62 goals-against average.
 
Last Meeting
St. Thomas swept Saint Benedict last season's series, winning 7-2 in St. Paul and 6-1 in St. Cloud. Kailee Medved made 32 saves in the first game and 41 saves the next day. Rylan Bistodeau scored once and Riley Schneider had two goals and an assist in the series.
 
The Storyline
After a 3-1 loss and a 1-1 tie against Augsburg last weekend, CSB looks to get a pair of conference wins and end the Tommies' undefeated season this weekend. CSB is seventh in the league and St. Thomas in first currently, but Saint Benedict looks to move up in the conference standings with four games remaining. After the St. Thomas series, Saint Benedict returns to the MAC for its final home game of the season on Feb. 16 against Gustavus.
 
Who to Watch:
Courtney Conlin leads CSB with 13 points, followed by Julia Pias with 12. Conlin and Pias lead the team with seven goals, and a total of 12 skaters having scored this season. Mollie Wise leads the team with 54 shots and Zoe Culshaw-Klien leads CSB with 23 blocked shots. Kailee Medved, Julia Carle, and Maggie Gilchrist have all seen time in net for CSB. The three have combined for 525 saves, a .913 save percentage, and 2.61 goals against.
