ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team wrapped up the 2018-19 season with a 5-0 loss to Gustavus Saturday afternoon in St. Cloud.
CSB wraps up the season 7-14-2 overall and 4-12-2 in the MIAC. Seven wins is the most for the team since it won eight in 2008-09. Saint Benedict has now won seven games four times in those 10 years, the last time in 2015-16 when it finished 7-15-3 overall. Four conference wins is the most for the team since 2015-16.
Gustavus (15-5-5, 11-3-4) – which had already secured a spot in the MIAC Tournament heading into the weekend series – scored twice in the first period and added a trio of third-period goals. The Gusties wrap up the regular season tied for third in the conference with Augsburg.
Riley Schneider and
Maddie Dockry each had an early shot on net Saturday afternoon, and
Grace Laudenbach added a shot a short time later. The Gusties' first goal came at the 13-minute mark of the first period, and they scored again at the 15:01 mark to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
Julia Carle mad 16 second-period saves to keep Gustavus off the board.
Annika Brodt and
Myka Stave had back-to-back shots on net, and
Mollie Wise had a shot late in the period, but CSB was unable to find the back of the net. Gustavus scored its third goal of the game at the 3:43 mark of the third, and then scored again at 13:02 and 16:29 in the third to ice the win.
In her final game in a Saint Benedict jersey, Carle just missed her career high as she ended the game with 53 saves. Gustavus had 58 shots on net to CSB's 14.
Riley Schneider had three shots on net to pace CSB and
Courtney Conlin and Dockry each added two.
Saturday's game marked the final collegiate game for CSB's six seniors: Carle, Dockry,
Jessica Malloy,
Mariah Reed,
Kylie Eklund and
Shelby Schneider.
