ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team plays its second game in the last three days Monday when Carleton comes to town. The game marks the second in a three-game stretch over a five-day period to wrap up the semester. After Monday, CSB hosts Gustavus Wednesday then isn't at home against until Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020.
ABOUT THE KNIGHTS
Carleton is 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the MIAC and looking to snap a four-game losing streak Monday. Two of the team's last four losses, however, have come to top-25 MIAC opponents, incluidng a 70-48 loss at No. 22 Augsburg Saturday. Katie Chavez leads the team and is fourth in the MIAC in scoring at 16.9 points per game, and both Samantha Cooke and Jill Yanai also average double digits.
LAST MEETING
Saint Benedict beat Carleton twice in 2019, winning 75-61 in January in Northfield and again 68-52 in February in St. Joseph.
Maddie Schmitz and
Sidney Schiffler both scored 20 points in the February win - a career-high for Schiffler.
Alex Johnson had seven rebounds.
THE STORYLINE
Saint Benedict is off to its best start since 2016-17 and looks to keep that going Monday in another MIAC contest. The team is also hoping to stay undefeated in Claire Lynch. After a solid win against Concordia Wednesday, CSB held off Hamline Saturday on the road, and looks to take control early against the Knights. Saint Benedict is also looking to keep its momentum going into the break so it can come off the holidays with energy to keep the win streak alive.
WHO TO WATCH
Alex Johnson had a big day defensively for Saint Benedict against the Pipers. Along with 14 points, she pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds to help the team pick up a big road win. She filled out her stat line with three assists, three steals and three blocked shots.
Sidney Schiffler also had 14 points.
Megan Thompson paced the team with a season-high 23 points last Wednesday against the Cobbers.
