CSB basketball opens MIAC play against Concordia

12/04/2019

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team is looking forward to getting back on the court after a two-week break. The Bennies kick of MIAC play Wednesday when they host Concordia at 7 p.m.

About the Cobbers
Concordia has had a busy season so far, playing six games in November. The Cobbers have played one MIAC opponent, and fell 61-51 to Augsburg in a close game. The Cobbers' overall season record is 2-4, winning their most recent game against Buena Vista 73-58. They are averaging 64 points per game, with Autumn Thompson averaging 14.7 points per game and leading the team with 88 points overall this season. Mary Sem and Emily Beseman also both average more than 10 points per game for Concordia.

Last Meeting
Last season these teams met up twice, with the Cobbers winning 74-68 in St. Joseph and CSB winning 92-91 in overtime in Moorhead. In the second game of the season, Megan Thompson had 14 points for CSB and Alex Johnson had nine rebounds and 5 blocked shots. Overall against Concordia, CSB is 39-24 and 24-9 for home games.

Story Line
CSB is 4-0 overall this season and the team is hoping to keep its momentum going after almost two weeks without a game. This game will be CSB's first MIAC test this season, and following this game the Bennies look to play three strong MIAC competitors: Hamline on Dec. 7, Carleton on Dec. 9, and Gustavus on Dec. 11. Winning these early games will help them to be in good MIAC standing early on in the season.

Who to Watch
The CSB basketball team has some strong leaders to look up to as Alex Johnson has 53 points so far this season and also leads the team with 39 rebounds. She leads the MIAC with 9.8 rebounds per game. Megan Thompson has 39 points and is averaging about 13 per game. McKenzie Holgate and Sidney Schiffler are right behind her with 35 points each, both averaging 8.8 per game.
