DECORAH, Iowa – The College of Saint Benedict club ultimate Frisbee team started its 2019-20 season with a trip to Decorah, Iowa, for the Luther Tournament in late October. The Rapture finished 3-2 over the weekend and started off the year with some big wins.
CSB started the tournament with a 13-1 win over St. Olaf.
Adrianna Warden, Maria Bedfrod, Hailey Jarocki and Annemarie Jensen – all new members of the squad – all had endzone catches to help the team kick off the weekend with a win. Next up was host-school Luther, and the Rapture won 9-8 thanks to a nice catch from Jensen. Saint Benedict wrapped up Saturday's games with an 11-5 loss to UW-LaCrosse.
Sunday, Rapture kicked off the second day of play with an 11-9 win over Edina thanks to a
Maran Wagner, who caught the game-winning point.
Beth Zobitz and
Gabi Miner both had key throws in the game to help CSB take the lead. Warden caught the first point in the team's final game of the tournament against DePaul, but CSB fell 11-9.
Courtney Petersen – another first-year member of the club – had a nice catch in the endzone to help keep the team in the game.
Daysy Rojas was given the Spirit Award both days for her positivity, confidence and teamwork on and off the field.
CSB continues its season this spring with more tournaments around the region.
