11/20/2019

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Tuesday, Hunter Weiss earned First Team All-American honors for her dominance on the volleyball court this season. Wednesday, she earned an equally as prestigious honor for her work and achievements in the classroom.

Weiss, a junior on the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team, is the 2019 NCAA Elite 90 award winner for women's volleyball, it was announced Wednesday night at the NCAA Championship banquet. She is just the second student-athlete from Saint Benedict to win the prestigious award – which was started in 2009-10 – and joins former CSB golfer Kathryn Hauff, who won the award at the 2009-10 women's golf national championships.

The Elite 90 award recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring an individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in their sport while also achieving the highest academic standards. The award is given to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA participating at the final site for each of the NCAA's championships.

Weiss – who, along with earning First Team All-American honors is also the 2019 MIAC Player of the Year and the AVCA Central Region Player of the Year – is a biology major with a cumulative 4.0 GPA. She earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for the second straight season in 2019, and is in the running for CoSIDA Academic All-American accolades.

Weiss and her teammates make their NCAA Championship debut Thursday, Nov. 21, when they take on Johns Hopkins at 5:30 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Live stats and video for the match are available here: https://www.ncaa.com/game/3888395.
