CSB opens home season with annual tip-off tournament

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. The CSB basketball team plays at home for the first time this weekend when it hosts its annual Quinlivan & Hughes Tip-Off Tournament Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15-16. After winning 85-51 against UW-River Falls on Monday, CSB is hoping to find on its home court.
 
Games start at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, with St. Olaf playing Buena Vista, and at 8 p.m. CSB plays Minnesota-Morris. On Saturday, St. Olaf takes on Morris at 1 p.m. and CSB hosts Buena Vista at 3 p.m. All games will take place in Claire Lynch Hall.

Throughout the month of November - which is Diabetes Awareness month - during warmups Saint Benedict will wear shirts supporting the Team Schnak cycling organization. Started by Kent Schnakenberg, the organization rides for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in support of his niece and every child who lives with the disease. Kent his driven more than 26,000 miles across the country this year alone to promote awareness of Type 1 diabetes, and he has put more than 1,500 mils on his bike as well.
 
About the Cougars
Minnesota Morris is 1-1 so far this season with a season-opening loss to Concordia and a win against Macalester. The Cougars finished 2018-19 16-10 overall and 12-4 in the UMAC. Lexus Eagle Chasing is averaging 17 points per game while Mias Wassink, and Abby VanKempen are both averaging double-digits scoring. Van Kempen scored 344 points last season for the cougars.
 
About the Beavers
Buena Vista is also coming into this tournament with one exhibition game loss this season. They played Dordt College in Iowa and lost 91-63. This tournament will be the Beavers' first set of games for the season. Last year they were 7-18 overall. Erin Gerke was second in overall points last year with 250, averaging 10.9 per game.
 
About the Oles
St. Olaf is a MIAC opponent for CSB, they will be coming into the tournament with one loss to Bethany Lutheran College and a win against North Central. Camryn Scott is averaging 12 points per game and Rachel Kelly is at 11.5 per game after two games this season. Ella Skiren was third in points for the Oles last season with 260, averaging 10.4 per game.
 
Who to Watch
Alex Johnson had a career-high game on Monday, scoring 22 points for CSB and getting 10 rebounds. Sidney Schiffler had 11 points against UW-River Falls. Megan Thompson was CSB's leading point scorer last season with 341 total points. Johnson and Schiffler were right behind her with 200 points each.
