ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team is off to an undefeated start in MIAC play and on a 13-match winning streak. Both streaks will be tested Saturday as CSB hosts Augsburg in a top-25 matchup Saturday, Oct. 5. The No. 7 Bennies host the 11
th-ranked Auggies at 3 p.m. in Claire Lynch in the team's first home game since Sept. 7.
About the Auggies
Augsburg is having a strong season so far; as it is 13-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The team's lone MIAC loss came Wednesday at St. Olaf in a close five-set match. Kayla Gjerde has 173 kills so far this season and Corrina Evans is right behind her with 123 kills and 56 blocks. The Auggies' No. 11 ranking is the highest in program history.
Last Meeting
It was a close match all the way through, but CSB beat Augsburg in three sets last year.
Madison Weiss had a then-career high of 17 kills and
Hunter Weiss was right behind her with 13 kills. The sweep pushed CSB's conference record to 7-0 last year and ultimately helped secure a home MAIC playoff game.
The Storyline
After CSB's 3-0 win against Macalester, the team is hoping to keep its 13-game win streak alive. This marks CSB's first home game in a month, and the team looks to take advantage of playing on its home court. Augsburg, on the other hand, is looking to bounce back after a five-set loss to St. Olaf. Both teams are ranked high in the MIAC and hope to continue their seasons with a win.
Who to Watch
Madison Weiss and
Hunter Weiss had solid games last week against the Scots as Madison had 17 kills and seven blocks with Hunter right behind her with nine kills and three blocks. Madison earned the second MIAC Hitter of the Week honor of her career on Monday after a big week last week and leading the team in kills and hitting percentage. First year
Maurissa Isaacs had a good game at Macalester as well with five kills and four blocks and sophomore
Mary Wenisch led the defense with 17 digs.
