CSB takes winning streak on the road

01/18/2019

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team pushed its current win streak to four games Wednesday with a big home win against St. Kate's, and now the team takes that streak on the road for a trio of games, starting Saturday in Northfield. CSB's first game of its road trip is at 1 p.m. Saturday against Carleton College.

About the Knights
Carleton won three of its first four games to start the season, but hasn't won since. The Knights are looking to snap a 12-game losing streak dating back to Nov. 25 when it dropped a close game in California. Carleton is 3-13 overall and winless in the MIAC at 0-9. Cece Leone leads the team in scoring at 12 points per game, and three other players also average at least eight points per game. Leone (6.9) and Annabella Jensen (6.8) lead the team in rebounds per game.

Last Meeting
CSB beat the Knights 68-59 last season in Northfield. Sidney Schiffler finished with 14 points and Maddie Schmitz had 12 to lead Saint Benedict, which hit eight 3-pointers and made just seven turnovers. Carleton led CSB by as many as 10 points early in the second quarter, and maintained a five-point lead at halftime before Saint Benedict took a slim lead in the third quarter and held on for the win.

The Storyline
After some struggles early in the season, Saint Benedict appears to be finding its groove. CSB avenged one of its losses from early in the year on Wednesday when it beat St. Kate's by 16 points. Saint Benedict is currently in a three-way tie for fourth in the MIAC with Bethel and Gustavus, and looks to keep moving up the conference standings. The Knights, on the other hand, are looking to grab a MIAC win and get their season back on track.

Who to Watch
Junior Sidney Schiffler was one of four starters in double digits Wednesday against the Wildcats with 16 points. Megan Thompson, Alex Johnson and Maddie Schmitz also hit double digits, and Johnson and Schmitz both had nine rebounds. Schiffler also tied her career-high last Saturday against St. Olaf, and Megan Thompson had a career-high 27 points.
