WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team picked up some close wins, but overall fell short against Macalester Saturday afternoon. CSB lost 6-3 to the Scots, putting the team's record at 11-7 overall and 2-4 in the MIAC.
Tessa Rahrick and
Kayla McIver got CSB off to a solid start with a hard-fought 9-8 (9-5) win at No. 1 doubles, but Macalester (4-8, 3-3), won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles and 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
Rahrick fell 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, but
Erin Kolbow picked up a win for CSB at No. 2 singles, winning 6-4, 6-2. The Scots won at No. 3 singles, but
Kayla McIver picked up another win for Saint Benedict when she beat her opponent 6-3, 6-4 and No. 4 singles. Macalester, however, won at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
Mackenzie Schurhamer came up just short at No. 5 singles, falling 7-6(7-5), 6-4.
CSB returns to action Sunday with a pair of MIAC matches. Saint Benedict takes on Saint Mary's at noon in Winona, then plays Carleton at 7 p.m. at Bloomington South High School.
