Hunter Weiss wins MIAC Elite 22 Award

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The honors keep rolling in for Hunter Weiss.

Weiss – who earned All-Region, All-American, All-MIAC and Academic All-District honors to wrap up her sophomore season with the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team – added another academic accolade to her ever-growing resume Monday.

Weiss is the 2018 recipient of the MIAC Elite 22 Award for volleyball, it was announced by the league Monday morning. The Elite 22 Award recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level while also achieving the highest academic standard among their peers.

As well as helping to lead the CSB volleyball team to the MIAC championship match – and later to the Sweet 16 at the NCAA Tournament – Weiss maintains a 4.0 GPA with a biology major. She is the second-ever Saint Benedict volleyball athlete to earn the league's Elite 22 Award, and just the fourth overall for the college. She joins Kathryn Gaydos (volleyball 2013-14), Piper Murray (soccer 2013-14) and Natalie Amundson (golf 2016-17) as the school's four honorees.

On top of keep up with her studies, Weiss dominated on the volleyball court this season. She became the first First Team All-American for CSB volleyball since 1993 after finishing in the top 30 in Division III in total kills and in the top five in the nation in total blocks this season. She helped her team to a 26-8 overall record and its first trip to the Sweet 16 since 2012.

Other Elite 22 honorees for Fall 2018 include Saint John's Chris Backes (football); Augsburg's Brett Buckingham (men's golf); Carleton's Abby Euyang (women's golf) and David Rubin (men's soccer) and St. Thomas' Parker Rosenau (men's cross country), Becca Wilkin (women's cross country) and McKenna Peplinski (women's soccer).
