Pias scores again as CSB ties Oles

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – After scoring the first goal of her College of Saint Benedict hockey career Friday night, first year Julia Pias added a second Saturday – and it was a big one.

Pias scored the lone goal of the game for CSB to help her team wrap up the weekend with a 1-1 tie against St. Olaf Saturday at the MAC in St. Cloud. The team beat the Oles 2-1 Friday, then finished in a 1-1, overtime tie Saturday.

St. Olaf (0-5-1, 0-3-1) scored first on a power play in the 13th minute of the first period, and that's where the score would stay the remainder of the first period and much of the second. Pias finally got Saint Benedict on the board at the 17:48 mark of the second off assists from Riley Schneider and Zoe Culshaw-Klein.

Kailee Medved made four saves in the third period – including back-to-back saves midway through the period – to keep the score tied and send the game to overtime. She had seven saves in overtime alone as the Oles managed to keep the puck in CSB's zone much of the five-minute period. CSB had two shots that went wide in OT.

CSB had several shots to start the second period, including a flurry of shots from Mollie Wise and Bre Hess early in the period. The team also had several shots blocked or saved later in the period before Pias got CSB on the board.

Saint Benedict finished with 17 shots on net to St. Olaf's 27. Wise led the team with four shots on net and Hess added three. Medved finished with 26 saves to earn her first tie of the year. She is now 2-1-1.

Saint Benedict is back in action Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 with a MIAC series at Saint Mary's in Winona. The team isn't at home against until it hosts Bethel on Saturday, Jan. 12.
