CSB hosts Macalester in final regular-season home match of 2018

10/24/2018

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After picking up its first conference loss of the year, Saint Benedict looks to end the regular season on a high note and gain momentum for playoffs. The team hosts Macalester Wednesday at  7 p.m. in the final regular-season match in Claire Lynch for CSB's three seniors: Allison Roehl, Lauren Mathews and Liz Schultz.

ABOUT THE SCOTS
Macalester looks to snap a five-game losing streak and end the regular season on a high note. The Scots have found success in nonconference play this season, but are winless in the MIAC with two matches left in the regular season. Abrielle Dillon is seventh in the league with 395 digs, and she is also fourth in the MIAC with 36 service aces. Nicole Bennington leads Macalester with 174 kills.

LAST MEETING
CSB swept Macalester last season in St. Paul, winning 25-17, 25-12 and 25-16. Hunter Weiss and Liz Schultz both led the team with seven kills and Haley LaValle had a team-high 19 digs. Allison Roehl also finished with 10 digs as CSB had 35 kills to the Scots' 19.

THE STORYLINE
Saint Benedict clinched its spot in the MIAC tournament this past weekend with a win at St. Olaf, now the team tries to hold onto the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament. A second seed would give CSB a bye in next week's first round, and guarantee the team home-court advantage for a semifinal match.

WHO TO WATCH:
Sophomore Madison Weiss was consistent at the net on both offense and defense as CSB split over the weekend. She had 13 kills against the Oles and Gustavus, and also had at least four blocks in each match. She continues to lead the MIAC and NCAA in total blocks. Katie Koch and Haley LaValle lead the league in assists and digs, respectively, and Hunter Weiss is second in the conference with 326 kills.
