ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After being on the road and at tournaments every weekend to start the season, the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team has enjoyed a few lighter weeks recently. The team looks to take advantage of another home match in Claire Lynch before things pick back up. CSB hosts Carleton at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, in Claire Lynch Hall.
About the Knights
Carleton heads into Wednesday's match looking to snap a three-game losing streak. The Knights - who had previously won six straight - have since dropped three straight MIAC matches, all by sweep. Elyse Wansenried leads the team with 138 kills, and Celeste Chen is 12th in the MIAC with 205 digs. Abby Loe is second in the league with 31 service aces.
Last Meeting
CSB swept the Knights last season in Northfield. After a 25-12 win in Set 1, Carleton pushed things to the limit in the second set before CSB won 26-24, and Saint Benedict wrapped things up with a 25-17 win in Set 3.
Liz Schultz and
Hunter Weiss both had nine kills and
Bridget McDonald had a team-high 10 digs.
The Storyline
After a pair of fairly quiet weeks, things ramp up again for CSB this weekend when it heads to Bethel for a key MIAC match Friday. Things don't get any easier next week as the team hosts Augsburg before heading to Iowa to take on several regional opponents, including a tough UW-La Crosse squad that knocked the team out of the national tournament last season.
Who to Watch
Sophomore
Madison Weiss continues to lead the nation in blocks per set, and she's not the only one in the top 15 in the nation.
Hunter Weiss is 14th Division III in total kills,
Haley LaValle is 11th in total digs and
Katie Koch is 12th in total assists. As a team, CSB is second in the nation in team blocks - behind only Bethel - and ninth in Division III in team digs.
