ST. PAUL, Minn. –
Kailee Medved kept the College of Saint Benedict hockey team in the game Saturday afternoon, but St. Kate's pulled away for a 3-1 win in St. Paul.
Medved finished with 31 saves – including 17 in the first period alone – to give CSB a chance against the Wildcats, which had 34 shots on net to CSB's 24. Medved made seven saves in both the second and third periods.
St. Kate's (6-12-1, 5-6-1) scored first in the 10
th minute of the first period, but
Brigette Miller tied the score five minutes later on a power play goal.
Maddie Dockry and
Courtney Conlin were credited with assists on the goal, which marked Miller's eighth of the season.
The tie was short-lived, however, as the Wildcats scored with 50 seconds left in the first period to go up 2-1. St. Kate's added one last goal in the third minute of the second period to make it 3-1, and that's where the score would stay the remainder of the game. Medved came off the ice for the final minute of play to give CSB a one-woman advantage, and Saint Benedict had four shots, but two were saved and two were blocked by the Wildcats.
Riley Schneider finished with five shots on net to lead CSB, which is now 2-15-1 overall and 1-10-1 in the MIAC.
Jessica Malloy added four shots on net.
CSB is back at home Friday, Feb. 2, when it hosts Augsburg – which is receiving votes in the latest USCHO.com poll – at 7:30 p.m. at the MAC in St. Cloud.
