ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict softball team wraps up the regular season with two doubleheaders this weekend. On Saturday, CSB hosts St. Catherine for a MIAC doubleheader in a win-or-go-home matchup with a spot in the conference tournament on the line. That game is in St. Joseph at 1 p.m. Sunday, CSB travels to Duluth to take on College of St. Scholastica for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
After Saturday's doubleheader, CSB athletes and coaches welcome parents and family to stick around for Parent Appreciation Day as a way to say thank you for all the support this season.
About the Wildcats:
The St. Catherine University Wildcats come into Saturday's matchup with a record of 26-10, and a MIAC record of 14-4. The Wildcats, who have won their last six games, come into the matchup after a doubleheader with Gustavus on Thursday afternoon. Jenna George is sixth in the league with a .422 batting average, leads the league with both 46 RBIs and eight home-runs. Kylie Macziewski and Amber Montero are second and third in the league with seven and five home runs each. Krista Flugstad is second in the league with a 1.03 ERA and 18 wins.
About the Saints:
The College of St. Scholastica Saints come into Sunday's matchup against the Blazers after starting the season 20-14, and lead the UMAC with a 13-1 record. The Saints come into the matchup after traveling to Crown College on Saturday. Alexa Bremer leads the team with a .432 batting average, 26 runs scored, and nine stolen bases. Hannah Borgeson leads the team with 24 RBIs. Chrisi Mizera leads the pitchers with a 2.25 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 96.1 innings pitched.
Who to Watch:
Sara Wennerstrand leads the team with a .581 slugging percentage and is third in the MIAC with 37 RBIs.
Megan Toninato has a .446 on-base percentage, and is fourth in the MIAC with 17 steals.
Emilie Antony is second in the MIAC with 38 RBIs and has a .574 slugging percentage.
Kate Deming is second in the MIAC with 29 stolen bases and leads the team with 45 runs scored, and leads the team with a .413 batting average. Heading into the weekend, she is tied for the school record for stolen bases in a season and is one run away from tying the record for runs in a season.
Kiela DeVlaeminck leads the pitchers with a 2.43 ERA, a record of 9-3, 83.2 innings pitched and 65 strikeouts.
Last Time Out:
On Sunday, the Blazers played a double header at University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. The Blazers lost the first game 8-4 and lost the second game 5-0. The Blazers lost the first game despite out-hitting the Tommies 11 to 10, but gave up two unearned runs. Deming had five hits on the day, and
Jocelyn Metz threw a complete game.
The Storyline:
CSB heads into the weekend in fourth in the MIAC and fighting for one of the spots in the four-team postseason tournament. Saint Benedict needs at least one win to secure a spot, as St. Olaf – which is in fifth – is still fighting for that spot. After not making the playoffs last year, the Blazers look to finish strong on their way to the MIAC tournament.
