ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team is looking to continue the success it has found in the MIAC season. The 7-1 CSB basketball team continues MIAC play Saturday, Dec. 9, in Claire Lynch Hall when facing off against St. Olaf College at 3 p.m.
About St. Olaf
The Oles head into the matchup 2-7 overall and 0-2 in the MIAC, coming off a 60-55 loss against Hamline. St. Olaf is coming off a 2016-17 season where it went 8-17 overall, and missed the MIAC tournament. Makenna Ash leads the Oles with 11.3 points per game and 8.8 rebounds per game.
Last Year
Saint Benedict beat St. Olaf 72-53 last year on Feb. 1 in St. Joseph. CSB hit 12 3-pointers en route to a 19-point victory.
Sidney Schiffler and
Kate Banovetz both scored in double figures for CSB and
Chelsey Guetter led the team with seven rebounds. Ash Makenna scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Oles.
Who to Watch
This season, all eyes are on seniors
Chelsey Guetter,
Niki Fokken, and
Kate Banovetz after stellar seasons in their junior campaigns. Through eight games, Fokken leads the team with 14.4 points per game. Fokken tied her career high 28 points on Wednesday after leading CSB to a win over Macalester. Guetter leads the team with 8.6 rebounds per game and averages 9.8 points per game. First year
Haylee Fingalsen is averaging 6.8 points per game.
The Storyline
Saint Benedict has gotten the MIAC season off to a solid start with wins over Bethel and Macalester. CSB also looks to stay hot at home and take advantage of being in Claire Lynch while it can. Saint Benedict plays seven of its first 10 games at home, and is currently 5-1 in Claire Lynch. CSB travels to Hamline University in St. Paul on Dec. 13 for the last game before a few weeks off for the holiday break.
