Miller scores twice in loss to Cardinals

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Brigette Miller scored a pair of goals but it wasn't enough as the College of Saint Benedict hockey team fell 6-2 to Saint Mary's University Friday night at the MAC in St. Cloud.

CSB ended the first period on a 5-on-3 power play, but was unable to score and the period ended at 0-0. The Cardinals (4-4, 2-3) scored three minutes into the second and then again six minutes later to go up 2-0.

Miller's first goal of the game – and second of the season – in the 14th minute of the second off an assist from Riley Schneider to make it a 2-1 game. Saint Mary's scored twice more, including once on a power play, to make it 4-2, but Miller scored again with a minute and a half left in the second to cut the gap to 4-2. Her second goal came off assists from Riley Schneider and Maddie Dockry.

The second period ended with the Cardinals holding onto a two-goal lead, and they scored again midway through the third to make it 5-2. SMU was called for a penalty with just over three minutes left in the game and CSB pulled goalie Julia Carle to give the team a 6-on-4 advantage, but Saint Benedict was unable to score. The Cardinals ended the game with an empty-net goal with 11 seconds left to play.

CSB finished the night with 22 shots on net to Saint Mary's 34. Dockry had six shots on net and Courtney Conlin finished with four, including several one-on-one opportunities late in the third. Miller also had three shots on net.

Carle finished the night with 28 saves for Saint Benedict, which had five power play opportunities.

Saint Benedict is now 0-6-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the MIAC and is back at home at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, when it hosts SMU in the second game of the weekend series.
