CLERMONT, Fla. – After having two games rained out Friday, the College of Saint Benedict softball team played a triple header Saturday morning and afternoon in Clermont, Fla.
The Blazers started the day with a 10-5 loss to No. 7 Luther, but bounced back to defeat No. 22 – and three-time defending national champion – Tufts 9-1 in six innings and Buffalo State 18-7 in five innings. CSB is now 10-5 overall, including 7-4 in Florida.
In its first game of the day, Luther took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a pair of RBI singles, but CSB tied the game in the third on an RBI double from

From there it was all Luther, however. The Norse scored six runs in the fifth inning, thanks in large part to a grand slam, and they added a pair of runs in the seventh inning to seal the win.

Kiela DeVlaeminck threw all seven innings and took the loss after giving up 10 runs on 15 hits with one strikeout.
The Blazers took an early lead against Tufts which, heading into 2016, was riding a 53-game winning streak.
Kate Deming singled and came around to score on a passed ball in the first to put CSB up 1-0. Tufts tied the game in the second, but the Blazers took the lead for good when Wennerstrand walked and then scored when
Becky Gigstad was walked with the bases loaded.
DeVlaeminck sent in a run on a sacrifice bunt in the fourth, and CSB scored four runs in the fifth on an RBI double by Wennerstrand and a two-run single by Deming. CSB ended the game early in the sixth on a two-run single by
Madison Mikolich.
Deming finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Toninato,
Karlee Pfaff and Mikolich all had a pair of hits, and Mikolich finished with two RBIs.
Cassie Meyer threw all six innings and earned the win after giving up a single run on six hits with one strikeout.
In the Blazers' third and final game of the day, they took advantage of seven walks, three hit batters and four hits to take a 15-3 lead after two innings.
Sara Wennerstrand had a bases-clearing double to highlight the first inning. The Blazers added three more runs in the fifth and got a two-run double from
Samantha Sakihara to end the game early.
Wennerstrand had four RBIs to lead CSB, which scored 18 runs on nine hits. DeVlaeminck threw the first two-thirds of an inning, and Meyer earned the win after giving up two runs on four hits in 3.1 innings of work.
