CSB hockey falls to St. Kate’s

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Friday night, the College of Saint Benedict hockey team skated to an overtime tie with St. Kate's. Saturday afternoon, the Wildcats were too much for the Blazers as St. Kate's scored three third-period goals en route to a 4-1 win in St. Paul.

With four games left in the regular season, the Blazers are now 7-12-2 overall and 5-7-2 and alone in seventh in the MIAC. CSB is two points behind Saint Mary's, which is 6-6-2 in the league. The Blazers host the Cardinals for a pair of games next weekend.

After a scoreless first period Saturday afternoon, the Wildcats (4-12-5, 3-9-2) got on the board less than three minutes into the second when Anna Carman scored. St. Kate's held onto its 1-0 lead through the remainder of the second period and into the third, and then the Wildcats added two goals within three minutes.

Jordan Solheim scored at the 4:23 mark and Laken Muller made it 3-0 at the 7:35 mark.

Maddie Rainey got the Blazers on the board 12 minutes into the third off an assist from Allison Kirk, but the Wildcats added one more goal on an empty net in the final two minutes of the game to seal the win.

Both teams finished with 27 shots on net. Rainey, Brigette Miller and Siri Berg-Moberg all had five shots on goal for CSB, which failed to take advantage of a pair of power play opportunities.

Angel Hillstrom took the loss after giving up three goals. She made 22 saves. Dory Johnson played the final two minutes of the game and stopped one shot.

CSB is at home for three of its final games of the season. The Blazers host Saint Mary's at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, and 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, then host Augsburg Friday, Feb. 19, and play the Auggies in Minneapolis Saturday, Feb. 20.
