ST. PETER, Minn. – In the last three seasons, the College of Saint Benedict hockey team has gone 3-2-1 against Gustavus, including a win and a tie last season. CSB looked to add another win against the traditionally tough Gusties Friday night, but Gustavus had other ideas.
Gustavus beat CSB 3-1 in a MIAC contest in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties scored a pair of first period power play goals and added one more in the final two minutes of the game to seal the win. Saint Benedict is now 2-4 overall and 0-4 in the MIAC, and Gustavus moved to 5-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the conference.
CSB was called for three penalties in the first period, and the Gusties capitalized on two. Gustavus scored on the power play in the first two minutes of the game, and scored the eventual game-winner in the 12
th minute on another power play goal.
Neither team scored in the second period, and CSB's only goal of the game came in the third at 12:51 when
Allison Kirk scored her second goal of the season on the power play off an assist from
Elli Marvin. The assist marked the fifth of the season for Marvin, who leads the team with 12 points, seven goals and five assists. Gustavus ended the scoring with a minute and a half left to play.
The Gusties outshot Saint Benedict 53-8, and sophomore goalie
Julia Carle made a career-high 50 saves to keep CSB in the game. She had 21 first-period saves, nine in the second and 20 more in the third period.
CSB and the Gusties play again at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at the MAC in St. Cloud.
