ST. PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team started its weekend series with a 3-0 loss to Bethel University Friday night.
The Royals scored one goal in each period in Friday's MIAC game in St. Paul. Saint Benedict is now 5-10-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the league. Bethel is 7-7-2 overall and 5-2-2 and in fourth in the conference.
Bethel started the scoring less than five minutes into the first period when Sarina Goos scored to make it 1-0. Despite having nine shots in the first period – including three from
Brigette Miller – CSB was unable to score.
The Royals added a second goal three minutes into the second period when Lauren Kolak found the back of the net, and Bethel ended the scoring for the night with just over a minute to play on an empty-net goal by Wendy Roberts.
Bethel finished with 27 shots on net to CSB's 21. Miller led the Blazers with six shots on goal and
Elli Marvin added three.
Angel Hillstrom made 24 saves in net for Saint Benedict.
The Blazers and Royals are back in action in the second game of the series at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at the MAC in St. Cloud.
