ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team continues its streak of road games this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18-19, when it travels to Waverly, Iowa, for three matches in the Wartburg Tournament. CSB continues its tough schedule in Iowa with matches against Coe and Wartburg – who are both receiving votes in the AVCA poll – as well as Buena Vista.

The Schedule
Friday, Sept. 18: CSB vs Coe, 7 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 19: CSB vs Buena Vista, 10 a.m.
CSB vs Wartburg, Noon

About Wartburg: The Wartburg Knights won the Virginia Wesleyan Tournament earlier this year. Krystal Graves leads the team in kills per set with 2.96. Jamie Farley leads Wartburg with 4.83 digs per set. Wartburg is coming off a 3-0 win against Simpson. Wartburg, which is receiving votes in Division III, is 7-1.

About Coe: Coe is currently receiving votes in the AVCA poll after starting the season with a record of 4-1. Currently, the Kohawks have a record of 9-3 and are coming off a 3-2 win over Cornell. Three players from Coe have at least 75 kills on the season.

About Buena Vista: Buena Vista is currently on a three-game losing streak after losing to fourth-ranked Carthage, 14th-ranked Elmhurst and Central. BVU is 5-5 overall. Sophomore Jade Schaap leads the team with 3.83 kills per set. Buena Vista is averaging 15.9 points per set.

About CSB: The Blazers are 5-4 overall and are coming off a big 3-0 win over St. Thomas in their first MIAC match of the season. CSB won the first two sets before falling in the third set, but came out and dominated in the fourth set for the 3-1 win – the first against UST since Oct. 14, 2009. Saint Benedict is looking to use that momentum in its nonconference matches this weekend to keep its three-match winning streak alive.

Who to Watch: Senior Laura Schmitt has been a leader for CSB's offense so far this season. She leads the team and is sixth in the MIAC with 119 total kills. Leading the way for the Blazer offense is setter Megan Pekarek, who is fifth in the MIAC with 8.51 assists per set. She is fourth in the league with 298 total assists. Junior Meghan Koop leads the team with 136 digs, and Schmitt is right behind with 128.

Last Time: The Blazers fell 3-2 to Coe, which was ranked 25th at the time, on Sept. 5 at the Northwestern Tournament. The last time CSB played Wartburg was Oct. 1, 2010, and CSB won 3-1 as part of the Minnesota-Iowa Border Battle in St. Joseph. CSB hasn't played Buena Vista since 2007. The Blazers won 3-1 on Sept. 14 in a match at the CSB Holiday InnVitational in St. Joseph.
