Marvin, Hillstrom lead CSB past Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team picked up its first win of 2015-16 Saturday afternoon when it beat Marian University 3-2 in Fond du Lac, Wis.

Junior Elli Marvin led the CSB offense with two goals, and first year goalieAngel Hillstrom made her debut in net an impressive one as she finished the afternoon with 34 saves.

Marvin put the Blazers (1-1) on the board at the 13:40 mark of the first period with an unassisted goal, and she added a second goal at the 18-minute mark off an assist from Brigette Miller to make it 2-0 in favor of CSB.

Courtney Wittig, who had two goals in the Sabers' 5-1 win Friday, scored in the second period Saturday to make it 2-1, but Miller added a goal of her own for Saint Benedict to make it 3-1 with less than three minute to play. Maddie Dockry assisted on Miller's goal for her first collegiate point.

Marian pulled its goalie late in the third period and scored a goal at the 19:16 mark with an extra attacker, but the Blazers held on for the win.

Marian outshot Saint Benedict 36-29, but Hillstrom made 34 stops for CSB in the first game of her college career. Marvin and Miller each had six shots on net to lead the Blazers and Maddie Rainey and Liz Herems both finished with three.

CSB is back in action and back on the road next Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13-14, when it opens MIAC play at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn.
