NEW ULM, Minn. – After amassing a 10-point lead at halftime, the College of Saint Benedict basketball team held off a pesky Martin Luther team Monday night. The Blazers took advantage of free throws down the stretch to hold on for a 60-56 nonconference win in New Ulm, Minn.

Macy Kelly put CSB (3-1) up 10, 31-21, heading into halftime Monday night. Saint Benedict had taken an early lead and pushed its lead to 10 for the first time on a three by
Annie Dittberner to start the second quarter.
But the Knights (1-3) came storming back in the third, and went on a 10-3 run to start the quarter and get within three, 34-31. Martin Luther outscored the Blazers 18-7 in the third and hit a three at the third-quarter buzzer to make it a one-point game, 39-38, heading into the fourth.

Chelsey Guetter and a jumper by Dittberner helped give CSB some cushion to start the final quarter, and a pair of free throws by
Niki Fokken and another three from Dittberner pushed the Blazers' lead back to 10, 50-40, with 6:27 to play.
MLC cut the gap to four with just over five minutes to play, but Fokken scored and Dittberner hit another three to make it a nine-point game with 4:37 remaining. The Knights made one last run, and got the lead down to three, 58-55, with 19 seconds left, but Dittberner hit a pair of free throws to seal the win.
Dittberner went 6-for-9 from the field, including 4-for-6 from long range and finished with 19 points to lead CSB, which shot 37 percent from the field. Fokken added 18 points and seven rebounds as she went 6-for-7 from the line.
Chelsey Guetter added 10 rebounds and
Grace Wolhowe finished with eight points for the Blazers, who went 15-for-23 from the line and had 42 rebounds.
Erin Schmeling had 14 points and Mariah Schoof had 12 points and 10 rebounds to pace MLC, which shot 29.7 percent from the field and went 14-for-20 from the line. The Knights had 43 rebounds.
CSB returns home and wraps up a busy stretch Tuesday when it hosts UW-Superior at 7 p.m. The game marks the Blazers' fourth in five days.
