CSB soccer falls to Tommies

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict soccer team picked up its second MIAC loss of the season Wednesday night when it traveled to St. Paul, Minn., to take on St. Thomas.

CSB outshot the Tommies, but St. Thomas scored a single goal in the 33rd minute of the game, and that proved to be all that was needed in UST's 1-0 win.

The Blazers are now 5-4-2 overall and 3-2 in the MIAC. Both CSB and Carleton are 3-2 in the conference and Augsburg, Gustavus and St. Thomas are 4-1.

CSB had several shots that went wide to start the game, including a shot from Aly Hoffman that was wide right in the third minute of the game and another by Taylor Hedin that was wide left three minutes later.

A yellow card was handed out to the Blazers at the 32:58 mark of the first half, and the Tommies capitalized with their first and only goal of the game a few seconds later. Mallory DeBoom scored her fourth goal of the year off of Paige Wilberding's free kick following the yellow card.

The Blazers had three straight shots that went wide to start the second half, and put two shots on net in the half, but couldn't get past UST goalie Tarynn Theilig. Corrine Seehusen and Kelsey Tatarek each had a shot on net.

CSB finished with 13 shots to St. Thomas' six, but the Tommies had five shots on goal to CSB's two. Heather Kaluzniak made four saves for CSB.

The Blazers are back in action and back on the road Saturday, Oct. 10, when they travel to Arden Hills, Minn., to take on Bethel University. CSB looks to get back in the win column against the Royals before returning home to face Gustavus, which is at the top of the MIAC, on Oct. 14.
