About the Pipers:Hamline comes into this game sliding on a four-game losing streak against MIAC opponents. Their only conference victory thus far has come against 10th-place St. Olaf. Offensively, this year has been a struggle; they are averaging one goal per game and have been shutout four times. They are led by a first-year keeper (Briscoe) and a first-year forward (Louter).
Â
Storyline:As far as MIAC playoffs go, this game as all but mathematically a must-have for the Blazers. They are currently tied for fourth-place with four other teams. Six teams qualify for the postseason. Needless to say, a loss against one of the MIAC's struggling teams would put them on the outside looking in for the MIAC playoff race. Key to the victory for the Blazers will be to get ahead early. The Pipers are 0-6 when their opponents score first.
Â
Last Year:The Blazers traveled to Hamline last year in early September, riding a five-game win streak. Defenses dominated the first 80 minutes of that game, as neither team was able to beat the other's keeper. With just seven minutes left in the game,
Brooke DeMets sent a pass to
Megan Lenz, which Lenz promptly rocketed into the goal to give the Blazers the lead and the eventual victory.
