St. Peter, Minn. – The Saint Benedict softball team opened up Sunday (Mar. 30) with a 9-5 win over host Gustavus, but fell 8-4 in game two to close the doubleheader with a split.

The Blazers (14-5, 1-3 MIAC) got a complete game from Emily Engelmeier (South St. Paul, Minn.) in game one, as she improved to 8-0 on the season, striking out three along the way. She gave up eight hits, and all five runs were earned.

CSB out-hit the Gusties (8-8, 3-1 MIAC) 12-to-8 in the game one win, including a 3-for-5 day from Kim Lidstone (Minnetonka, Minn.) for her fourth three-hit game of the season.

The Blazers broke open a 5-5 game with a four-run seventh inning, doing their damage on back-to-back homers from Maddie Lenker (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Melissa Seldon (Rosemount, Minn.). Lenker's was a bases clearing three-run bomb, while Seldon followed up with the solo shot.

In game two, Rachel Nelson (Lindstrom, Minn.) took the loss, but allowed just four earned runs of the eight to cross the plate.

The Blazers still managed to out-hit the Gusties, but four errors hurt them. Lexi Alm (Stacy, Minn.) went 3-for-4 in the game, part of a team best five-hit day for the senior.

With their Tuesday home opener postponed, CSB will now look to the weekend, as they are scheduled to host Bethel on Apr. 5 in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
