St. Paul, Minn. – The Saint Benedict hockey team enacted a little bit of revenge today (Feb. 8), scoring a 6-0 victory over Hamline, just a night after the Pipers handed the Blazers a 4-1 loss.
Â
Five different players scored and
Jenna Traut (St. Cloud, Minn.) stopped all 20 shots she saw as the Blazers charted their most lopsided win of the season.
Â
For the second time in as many nights the Blazers stuck first, going up 1-0 in the first period. The opening goal came off the stick of
Siri Berg-Moberg (St. Paul, Minn.) at the 13:48 mark.
Â
With an assist from
Elli Marvin (Shoreview, Minn.), Berg-Moberg notched her third goal of the season and had the Blazers in the lead first for the fourth straight game.
Â
Unlike yesterday, the Blazers took their lead into the break, keeping the Pipers of the board. The CSB defense surrendered just nine shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes, while allowing just 11 more all game.
Â
In the second, the offense really came alive, pouring on three goals to take a 4-0 lead into the second intermission.
Â
Three different players scored as the Blazers turned a once-close game into a rout. The second period scoring started with Marvin taking an assist from Berg-Moberg, trading places from the first goal. Marvin now has a goal in four straight games, totaling eight points over the stretch.
Â
Ally Nielsen (Alexandria, Minn.) and
Stephanie Kirk (Minnetonka, Minn.) added the insurance, with Kirk's goal coming in the final minute of the period.
Â
Kirk added a second for the final 6-0 tally, while
Maddie Rainey (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) also scored in the third. Kirk now has a team best 11 goals on the season, and five two-goal games.
Â
Next weekend the Blazers take on Bethel in MIAC action, playing in St. Paul on Friday (Feb. 14) and hosting the Royals on Feb. 15 to close out the weekend.
