St. Joseph, Minn. – The Saint Benedict basketball team wrapped up their season today (Feb. 22) in a tough loss to the University of St. Thomas. The Blazers fought hard, but after falling behind late in the first half, the No. 18 ranked Tommies proved too tough in beating CSB by a score of 69-52.

The Blazers have now finished their season with a record of 12-13 and placed seventh in the MIAC with a 9-13 conference mark. The Tommies, meanwhile, locked up a second place finish improving to 21-4 on the year, and 19-3 in the MIAC.

Highlighting the day was
Brianna Barrett, who finished with a team best 15 points to make her the 19th member of the CSB 1,000-point club, joining in the final minutes of her last game with the Blazers. She scored 13 of her points in the second half and becomes the first player to reach 1,000 since 2011. She is only the sixth member of the 1,000 club to start her career after the year 2000.

In the first half, the two teams battled back and forth for the first seven minutes with neither team pulling much ahead of the other. After a tough defensive half by both teams, St. Thomas eventually took a 9-0 run to put the score at 17-8. Just a minute later, the Tommies pulled further ahead with a run of 21-4 to give them the 38-14 lead to close out the first half.

The second half started out once again with both teams going back and forth as St. Thomas kept a lead of over 20-points. The Blazers then began to close the gap with just under five minutes left in the game. The Blazers began this short-lived comeback with a 9-0 run to put the score at 65-46.

From there, the Blazers went on a 6-0 run to finish the game by a score of 69-52.

Joining Barrett in double figures was
Tish Alexander also added another 12 points.
Morgan Dale finished the night with 11 rebounds and three steals to lead the Blazer's defense. It's her fifth straight game with double-digit rebounds and 15
th time reaching the mark this season.

She finished her career with 686 rebounds to place fourth all time, while her 282 this season, is one of the best single season's in program history and sits just 18 shy of the single season record of 300.

Joining in the record books was Alexander, who closes her career with 192 steals to place fourth all time, finishing just six shy of third all time.
