Puget Sound defeats CSB basketball 75-54

SEATTLE, Wash. – For the second straight game, cold shooting and being out rebounded hampered the College of Saint Benedict basketball team Friday night. The Blazers shot 32 percent from the field in a 75-54 loss to Puget Sound in the first game of a two-game West Coast road trip in Seattle, Wash.

The Loggers (3-0) shot 38.6 percent from the field and out shot CSB 51-39. The Blazers (1-2), who were down 27-16 at halftime, shot 21.9 percent from the field in the first half.

Saint Benedict hung with Puget Sound to start the game, as Annie Dittberner tied the game at 4-4 and later a layup by Abby Miller tied the game at 8-8. The Loggers used a short run to push its lead to seven, 17-10, with 8:41 left in the half, but Sydney Hughes scored and Miller hit a layup to make it a three-point game, 17-14, with 5:41 remaining in the first half.

In the last 5:41 of the first half, however, CSB scored just two points to the Loggers' 10, and Puget Sound led by 11 at the half.

Miller hit a 3-pointer to start the second half and make it an eight-point game, 27-19, but Puget Sound quickly pushed its lead back to double digits. A pair of free throws by Alison Newton made it a 12-point game and, later, a jumper by Mattie Lueck made it a 10-point game, 44-34, with 10:31 to play, but the Loggers held their lead and pushed it to 20 points in the game's final minutes.

Lueck finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Blazers, who shot 32.3 percent from the field. Miller added 15 points and Lueck also had four blocks. CSB went 12-for-20 from the line and had 39 rebounds to Puget Sound's 51. The Blazers also had 18 turnovers.
