Northfield, Minn. – The Saint Benedict basketball team scored an 81-73 road win over Carleton today (Jan. 18), using a strong second half to get there.

Coming out of halftime, the Blazers (8-5, 5-5 MIAC) and Knights (4-9, 2-8 MIAC) were tied 38-38, with CSB needing a 9-to-4 run late to pull even at the break.

Each team was strong from the field in the first half, with the Blazers hitting 48% of their shots, while the Knights hit at a 45% clip. The Blazers were also 4-of-11 from behind the arc in the first half.

Then in the second, the Blazers used a 7-to-0 run at to open the half to pull away, taking a 45-38 lead they would never lose. They went up by 10 with 14:05 left in the half, and stretched the lead to as much as 15 with 9:17 to go.

The Blazers finished the game shooting 43% (27-of-63) from the field, compared to 42% (24-of-58) for the Knights.

Brianna Barrett and
Mattie Lueck each led the Blazers with 18 points, while
Morgan Dale added 17 and
Emily Lueck added 13 off the bench.

On the boards, the Blazers were led by Dale with 10 on her way to the double-double, while
Mattie Lueck was just two shy of her own double-double, finishing with eight rebounds.

Now back to .500 in MIAC play, the Blazers will look to get over the .500 mark for the first time this season when they travel to St. Catherine on Wednesday (Jan. 22). Now starting the second trip through the conference, the Blazers will be looking to avenge a one-point loss to the Wildcats back in the conference opener.
