MIAC Championship: After a big 3-1 win over Augsburg earlier in the week, the Saint Benedict volleyball team will head to St. Paul to face the No. 4 nationally ranked St. Thomas Saturday night (Nov. 9) at 7 p.m. The Tommies gave the Blazers their second, and last, loss of the season, with the previous loss being to the Auggies. The Blazers have already taken revenge on their only other loss this year and will be coming out hard to finish the season with a win over every MIAC team along with a MIAC championship.

About the Tommies: The Tommies will be heading into this matchup in very similar circumstances that the Blazers will be. With a record of 27-2, the Tommies have just one more win on their record than the Blazers. The Tommies also have momentum heading into this match after winning their past nine matches with only one set loss in this streak. With only one loss all season since their opening game, the Tommies have climbed the ranks and sit just three spots ahead of the Blazers.

Last Matchup: In their last matchup, the Tommies played hard all night and held the Blazers to under 15 points in both of the first two sets. With 25-13 and 25-14 wins to start, the Tommies used this momentum to finish their sweep with a 25-19 win over the Blazers. The Blazer defense struggled in the match as the Tommies finished the first set with a team hitting percentage of .385 and went on to break the .500 mark in the next two sets. The Blazers only totaled 25 digs all night, which was a season low and also put up a season low of 32 kills.

The Storyline: Both teams will be fighting for the MIAC championship with heavy momentum on both sides and an NCAA National Tournament to look forward to. With stakes this high, the Blazers will be looking for a way to capitalize and head to the NCAA Tournament with another win in their winning streak, which is now up to 12 games. The Tommies, who claimed their seventh straight MIAC Regular Season Championship this year, will be looking to defend their tournament title and possibly move up even higher in the nation rankings before the tournament next week.

Who to Watch: Lexi Alm currently leads the MIAC with 0.62 service aces per set and is second on the team in kills with 287 this season. On top of this, Alm is second on the team with 319 digs this season and will be playing in the last post-season run of her career. Lexi Rinde will also be looking to rack up more kills after recently joining the 1,000 kills club as a junior. Chelsea Rachel still has a hold on the first place spot on the team in digs with 340 and averages almost four digs per set.

Last Time Out: In their last time out, the Blazers took a huge step towards a championship with a win over No. 13 Augsburg to get some revenge and move on to face the only other team that has beat them this season. With a 3-1 win, the Blazers went on the road and beat their highest ranked opponent of the season. They never trailed in the third or fourth sets.
