SMU Cardinal Invitational
: After a tough loss to No. 3 St. Thomas, the No. 10 Saint Benedict volleyball team heads to Winona for the Saint Mary's Cardinal Invitational this weekend (Oct 4-5). With a record of 14-2 (3-2 MIAC), the Blazers head in the tournament with high hopes looking to rebuild momentum for the final month of the regular season, which consists of six MIAC matchups and a match against Luther. The Blazers start this tournament with a match against Dubuque University and then go on to play Central College. From there, they will finish with a match against Wisconsin Eau-Claire before starting their MIAC run against Bethel next week.

About the Spartans: The Dubuque Spartans currently hold a record of 7-10 and are coming off their first win in the past seven games. With a 1-2 conference record, the Spartans are also looking for a momentum builder as they face two consecutive conference rivals right after the tournament.

About the Dutch: With a record of 6-12 and a conference record of 0-3, the Dutch will be coming to this tournament in need of some strong wins. Central is also looking to use this tournament to get out of a two-game losing streak, which included a 3-2 loss to conference opponent Dubuque University. After the Cardinal Invitational, the Dutch will finish their season with four conference games, and the Augustana Pumpkin Bash.

About the Blugolds: UW-Eau Claire is coming into this tournament with a 10-9 record and a 2-1 conference record. After a five-match winning streak, including two conference wins, the Blugolds have only won one game of their last four matchups, which include two sweeps and a conference loss to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Much like the other teams in this tournament, the Blugolds will be looking for more wins to build some momentum before playing mostly conference games for the remainder of their season.

Who to Watch: The two Lexi's have continued to power the Blazers offense this year. Lexi Rinde (Minnetonka, Minn.) leads the team in kills with 159 as well as a team high .365 hitting percentage. Lexi Alm (Forest Lake, Minn.) also adds 143 kills to the team and leads the team with 22 service aces. Despite being held to a season low of 28 assists, Taya Kockelman (Minneota, Minn.) still holds the No. 1 spot in the MIAC with 11.85 assists per set. She also leads her team with 545 assists on the season. Chelsea Rachel (Maple Lake, Minn.) is fifth in the MIAC with 0.42 aces per set and leads her team defensively with 169 digs.

Last Time Out: In their last time out, the Blazers fell in three to the Tommies for their second loss of the season. This match left the Tommies with a 5-0-conference record to sit at the top of the MIAC with Augsburg and Concordia, who are also still undefeated in conference play. The Blazers started the match out with a 25-13 loss in the first set, and followed up with a 25-14 loss in the second. In the third set, the Blazers played tough and kept the score close until the midway point. In the second half of the set, though, the Tommies began to break away and after stopping a Blazer's comeback, took a 25-19 win against the Blazers for the match.
