BOX SCORE
The College of Saint Benedict (4-12-3 overall, 2-7-3 MIAC) hosted Saint Mary's University (5-9-4 overall, 2-6-3) for a second straight day on Saturday. Friday night's game seemed to be as intense and hard hitting as any this year, but Saturday's game just escaladed from the previous. Both teams were constantly knocking each other to ice and putting one another in the penalty box. As competitive as the Blazers were, they fell one goal short to lose 1-0.
Saint Mary's did not come out feeling down about their previous loss as they scored a short-handed goal right away in the first period. This single goal would deem enough for a Cardinals' victory as the Blazers were not able to score a goal of their own. However, this was not because of lack of effort. The Blazers offense put 40 shots on goal, almost doubling Saint Mary's 22 shots.
Kaitlyn Rolando had an outstanding game at goalie and made more than a couple of incredible saves. Two one handed snatches out of the air come to mind immediately. Out of the 22 shots she saved 21 of them. When asked about how the team will be able to look forward from a disappointing loss such as this she stated “It is important to maintain our intensity and focus, especially with how tough the upcoming teams we will face are.”
The Blazers will be playing St. Olaf in their next match up at the MAC on February 10 at 7:30 p.m.
