St. Paul, Minn. -
Stephanie Bierman added two more wins to her season total, as the Saint Benedict swimming and diving team fell 152-91 to St. Thomas on the road today (Dec. 15).
The Blazer first year again swept the sprints, winning both the 50 and 100 freestyle. In the 50, she just squeaked out a win, posting a 24.76, to come in just ahead of a pair of Tommies in second and third place who were right near the 25.00 mark.
In the 100, she had a little more cushion winning by over a second. She posted a 54.43, to again beat out a Tommie for the top spot, who came it at 55.79.
Bierman then rounded out her day helping the Blazers to a runner-up finish in the 200 freestyle relay. With Bierman as the anchor,
Hailey Schwietz,
Brita Skalbeck and
Laura Peterson teamed up to finish in 1:41.48, and finish within a second of the top spot from UST.
In the final standings, the Blazers fell 152-91, as the Tommies avenged their dual meet loss to the Blazers last season. UST won nine of 13 events to secure the win.
Ellen Dean was also a winner on the night, taking home the 400 IM title. Dean set a new pool record at St. Thomas, winning by three seconds with her 4:50.14. In the final lap of the race alone, she was nearly three seconds faster than the runner up, as she pulled away for the win.
Lastly, coming out a winner was
Emily Roberts in the 100 back. Roberts continues to stay close to the one-minute mark, this time with a 1:00.75 for the win, nearly two seconds ahead of second place.
The Blazers are off until Jan. 12 when they host Carleton in a dual meet at the Palestra Pool in Collegeville. However, with their winter training trip coming up in just a few weeks, there will be plenty of opportunity to continue to get better. While in Florida on the trip, the Blazers do have one meet on the schedule, taking on St. Kate's on Jan. 5.
