Blazers Sweep the Mustangs

The Blazer swimming and diving team won every event en route to a 132-27 win over Morningside.

Collegeville, Minn.  – The Saint Benedict swimming and diving team cruised to their second dual meet win of the season tonight (Nov. 16), taking a 132-37 win over visiting Morningside.

Also for the second time this season, the Blazers took the top spot in every event, matching the standard they set against Concordia a week ago.

Stephanie Bierman again led the way, winning both the 100 and 200-freestyle, including a near six-second blasting of the field in the 200-free. She finished with a time of 1:59.77, easily outdistancing second place. She then went on to add a win in the 100-free that was nearly as dominant, posting a 54.42 to win by nearly four seconds.

Bierman also helped close the meet-sweep for the Blazers, leading off the winning 200-freestyle relay. She teamed up with Laura Peterson, Lauren Kessler and Kathryn Vogl to post a 1:45.33 beating another group of Blazers in second with their 1:48.65.

The Blazers also opened the evening's festivities with a relay win, cruising to one of the biggest margins of the night. Emily Roberts led off the 200-medley relay, followed by Victoria Tormanen and Ellen Dean, with Hailey Schweitz on the anchor as they finished with a mark of 1:54.23, over eight seconds ahead of Morningside in second place.

Three of members of the 200-medley also went on to win individually on the day, with the fourth adding a second.

Dean added another win to her season with a 1:01.45 in the 100-butterfly, followed by Roberts with her win in the 100-backstroke. Roberts won with a time of 1:02.01, narrowly beating Brita Skalbeck in second who touched the wall in 1:02.30.

The next member of the relay was Tormanen who won by two seconds it the 100-breaststroke, with a time of 1:10.49, while Schweitz came in second in the 50-free, just behind Skalbeck who won with a time of 25.19.

Rounding out the Blazers winners on the day was Katherine Kaiser in the 200-IM, posting the closest win of the day to do so. Kaiser came in at 2:22.35, just out-touching teammate Hannah Iverson in second at 2:22.43.

The Blazers return to action tomorrow (Nov. 17) when again host Morningside, but also welcome Gustavus as all three teams square off.
