BOX SCORE
The College of Saint Benedict (3-11-3 overall, 1-5-3 MIAC) hosted Hamline University (8-7-2 overall, 4-5-1 MIAC) Saturday afternoon at Torrey Arena. A very back and forth game kept it very exciting. Unfortunately, the Blazers fell short just a single goal to lose their eleventh game of the year.
The game started off right with a goal from sophomore forward Allyson Nielsen, assisted by
Annie Gorman. Then, Hamline's Johnson scored her first of two goals of the night to tie the game about twelve minutes in, but she was almost immediately followed by junior defender
Catherine Pollock. She scored off an assist from
Amie Ernst to send the Blazers into the second leading 2-1.
Hamline struck first in the second, tying the game up at 2 apiece. Once again, though, the Blazers answered with a goal from sophomore
Erin Geier. This 3-2 lead was not held for long as Johnson's second goal for the Pipers came only five minutes after.
Both teams' intensities stayed high going into the third tied 3-3. The Blazers fought hard all the way down to final seconds, but, unfortunately, the Pipers scored the final goal to deliver a 4-3 loss to Saint Ben's.
The Blazers had control for the majority of the game, but a tough break sends them away with their fourth straight loss.
Up next, Saint Ben's will be playing St. Mary's in back to back home games February 3 and 4.
