Rebounding Struggles Prove too Much for Blazers in 72-58 Loss to Macalester

The College of Saint Benedict basketball team (18-4 overall, 15-4 MIAC) suffered a tough 72-58 loss to Macalester in Claire Lynch Hall this evening.

The Scots began the game with a 4-0 lead over the Blazers in the first minute of play.  Five minutes and four lead changes later, Macalester was still ahead at 11-9 with 14 minutes to go.  The Blazers kept the game close, never letting the Scots move ahead by more than six points at 22-16.  Macalester still maintained the lead heading into the locker room with a 35-33 cushion over CSB.

The beginning portion of the second half was close before the Blazers found their first lead in 22 minutes of play at 47-46 with 13 minutes left on the clock.  The Scots, however, came right back, stealing the lead at 48-47 and keeping it for the remainder of the game.  A 17-6 run left the Blazers behind by 12 points at 65-53 before Macalester clinched the win at 72-58.

The boards were CSB's pitfall this evening as the Scots outrebounded the Blazers 40-24 over the course of the game.  Leading CSB in scoring was senior wing Amy Stifter who contributed 12 points while senior forward Laura Canton added 10 points.  Macalester was led by Majra Mucic, who had a double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds.

Up next for the Blazers is a road trip to Moorhead, MN, where they take on Concordia-Moorhead  on Sat., Feb. 12 at 1 p.m.
