Blazer Basketball Pick Up 75-57 Win Over Augsburg

The College of Saint Benedict basketball team (18-3 overall, 15-3 MIAC) defeated Augsburg 75-57 in Minneapolis, MN this afternoon.

The first half was a battle for both teams as there were eight lead changes over the course of the half.  The Blazers started with a 2-0 lead before the Auggies jumped ahead 4-2 with 18 minutes to go.  Five minutes later, CSB was ahead 9-6 before Augsburg came back 10-9.  Three minutes later, the Auggies were still ahead, this time by a score of 17-14 with 8:30 left on the clock.  The Blazers, however, were able to tie the score at 19 with six minutes to go.  CSB inched ahead over the rest of the half, extending its lead to four at 29-25 at the end of the half.

The Blazers started the second half on a 7-2 run to lead 36-29 with 17 minutes to go.  Over the next 10 minutes, a 22-6 run brought CSB ahead by 23 points at 58-35.  The Auggies battled, back, capitalizing on a 14-3 run over the Blazers to bring the score with 12 points at 61-49 with five minutes to go.  CSB didn't back down, jumping forward by 21 points at 72-51 before coming up with a 75-57 victory.

Leading the Blazers in scoring was senior wing Amy Stifter (Watertown, MN, Watertown-Mayer) who had 16 points and also grabbed four rebounds.  Sophomore post Hannah Hylla (Holdingford, Minn., Albany) added 11 points while sophomore forward Morgan Dale (Jamestown, ND, Jamestown) contributed nine points.  Augsburg was led by Brittany Zins with 14 points.

Up next for CSB is a home game against Macalester on Wed., Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m.  The Blazers will be celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day during the game while recognizing Robyn (Ruschmeier) Courchane with this year's Breaking Barrier's award.
