Blazer Basketball Cruises Past Carleton 64-48

The College of Saint Benedict basketball team (17-3 overall, 14-3 MIAC) defeated Carleton 64-48 in Northfield, MN this evening.

The Blazers started the game with a 10-6 lead in the first five minutes of the half. CSB then extended its lead to nine points at 20-11 with 9:30 left on the clock. By the end of the half, the Blazers had secure a 10-point lead at 30-20 after shooting 43% from the field, including 45% from beyond the arc off of 5-for-11 shooting.

A 12-2 Blazer run in the first 5:30 of the second half brought the lead to 20 points at 42-22. CSB continued to extend its lead over Carleton, coming up with a 26-point lead at 58-32 with seven minutes remaining in the half. A 50% field-goal percentage in the second half led the Blazers to a 64-48 victory over the Knights.

Leading CSB in scoring was senior post Heather Gillund (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine), who contributed 15 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and totaled four blocks. Senior wing Joelle Waytashek (Lino Lakes, MN, Centennial) added nine points. Akemi Arzouman led Carleton with 14 points.

Up next for the Blazers is another road game in Augsburg on Sat., Feb. 5 at 3 p.m.
