The College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team beat The University of St. Thomas 168-132 on Saturday afternoon in Collegeville, Minn.
The Blazers have swam well all year, and they continued to succeed in the pool on Saturday. CSB got a great one two punch out of Sophomore
Emily Roberts (Eden Prairie, MN, Benilde-St. Margaret's), and First-Year
Brita Skalbeck (Eden Prairie, MN, Hopkins). Roberts took first in both the 100 and 200 backstrokes, while Skalbeck took second in both events. The Blazers also got great performances in the 200 freestyle as First-Year
Morgan Peterson (Rogers, AR, St. Pius X) took first, Senior
Carolyn Triggs (Edina, MN, Edina) took second and Junior
Mary Wood (Rochester, MN, Lourdes) took third. CSB dominated in the 200 IM with Morgan Peterson getting first,
Carolyn Triggs taking second,
Ellen Dean (Bothell, WA, Henry M. Jackson) getting third, and
Kate Kaiser (Dassel, MN, Dassel Cokato High School) taking fourth.
Sophomore
Kristen Beste (Freeport, MN, Melrose) came up big for the Blazers winning both sprint freestyle races. This was very important for the Blazers because St. Thomas is known to be a sprinting team. After the meet head coach Kathy Walker said "We had many season and lifetime best, It was a total team effort and a great way to honor our seniors."
The Blazers are back in action January 3, as they head to Key Largo, FL. to compete in the Orange Bowl Classic.
