The College of Saint Benedict basketball team (12-1 overall, 9-1 MIAC) defeated Augsburg 82-52 in Claire Lynch Hall this afternoon.
The Blazers started the game with a 9-4 lead in the first four minutes of the half before CSB went on a 12-0 run to lead 21-4 with 10:30 remaining. Over the next eight minutes, another Blazer run of 12-8 put CSB up 33-12. Augsburg ended the half with five straight points to cut the lead to 33-17. Turnovers were the deciding factor in the first half as CSB committed only four while Augsburg had 13.
A 5-2 Auggie run in the first minute of the second half cut the lead to 14 points at 35-21 but couldn't make up anymore ground. A 23-3 Blazer run gave CSB the cushion it needed with a 34-point lead at 58-24 with 12:30 remaining. The Auggies only cut the lead down to 24 points at 70-46 with 4:20 left on the clock, but the Blazers prevailed, winning 82-52.
Twenty-one Blazers appeared in this afternoon's game, with 16 contributing to the score. CSB was led by senior point guard
Devin Bowlin with 12 points, while senior wing
Abby Richardson added 10 points. The Auggies were led by Serenae Levine, who had 11 points.
Up next, CSB travels to St. Mary's on Mon., Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m. The Blazers are next at home on Wed., Jan. 19, when they take on St. Catherine at 7:30 p.m.
