Basketball Picks Up Second Straight Win Against Bethel 63-55

The College of Saint Benedict basketball team (6-1 overall, 3-1 MIAC) defeated Bethel 63-55 for the Blazers' second consecutive conference win.

CSB started the game with a 5-0 lead before Bethel was able to push ahead 6-5 with 17 minutes left in the half.  Over the next two minutes, there were three lead changes before the Blazers moved ahead 10-9.  The Royals were able to tie the score at 12 with 13:30 remaining, but CSB never gave up the lead, gaining as much as a 14 point distance over Bethel.  A 48% field-goal percentage in the first half gave the Blazers a 38-27 lead going into half-time.

The Blazers never let the Royals catch up, keeping their lead throughout the entire second half.  Bethel was able to bring the score within five points at 47-42 and within four points at 59-55, but Saint Benedict finished strong with a 63-55 win.

Leading the Blazers was senior wing Amy Stifter (Watertown, MN, Watertown-Mayer), who contributed 19 points toward the win.  Senior post Heather Gillund (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine) added 14 points and pulled down six rebounds for CSB.  The Royals were led by Taylor Sheley with 15 points.

The Blazers next take on Gustavus on Sat., Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. at home in Claire Lynch Hall.
