The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (15-8 overall, 4-2 MIAC) lost its first home match of the season this evening to St. Mary's in a 3-1 deficit.
The first set began with a 12-6 Cardinal lead over the Blazers. CSB struggled to make up the distance, losing 25-18.
Much like the first set, the second began with a 12-8 Cardinal lead. The Blazers were able to bring the score with two at 12-10, but couldn't come any closer. A tough St. Mary's hitting percentage of .429 was the decising factor as CSB lost 25-16.
The Blazers came out with some fire in the third set, starting with an 11-7 lead. CSB was able to extend that distance off of 8-3 and 6-4 runs to win 25-14.
The final set was a battle between both teams. It started with the score tied at six before St. Mary's jumped ahead 10-8. CSB, however, tied the score at 10 and moved ahead 15-11. The Cardinals wouldn't give up, fighting back to tie the score at 19. The teams exchanged point for point until the score was again tied at 23. Here, St. Mary's strung together two consecutive points to hand the Blazers a 25-23 loss.

Kathyrn Gaydos (Savage, MN, Prior Lake) added 35 set assists, while senior middle blocker
Calleigh Brown (Buffalo, MN, Buffalo) contributed nine blocks. Sophomore libero
Farrah Wirtz (Esko, MN, Esko) totaled 15 digs for the Blazers. The Cardinals were led by Jessica Mate, who had 19 kills.
