Basketball Cruises to 64-41 Win Over St. Mary's

The College of Saint Benedict basketball team (7-1 overall, 5-0 MIAC) extends its winning streak to five in a 64-41 win over St. Mary's University in St. Joseph, Minn.

The Blazers started the game with an 8-3 lead over the Cardinals, who battled back to bring the score within one at 12-11 with nine minutes remaining.  The game progressed slowly, but with a 20-17 score, CSB capitalized on a 9-6 run to give themselves a six-point lead at 29-23 to end the half.

CSB then strung together an 11-5 run over the first six minutes of the second half to jump ahead 40-28.  Another 18-7 run extended the Blazers lead to 58-35.  By holding the Cardinals to a mere 20% field goal percentage in the second half, CSB picked up the win with a final score of 64-41.

The Blazers were led by senior wing Mindy Schmidt (Brooklyn Park, MN, Champlin Park) and junior post Heather Gillund (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine), who each had 14 points for the Blazers.  Gillund also collected six rebounds, while Schmidt grabbed five.
