The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (7-4 overall, 1-0 MIAC) defeated Crown College 3-0 in their first match of the CSB Holiday Inn-Vitational this evening.
The Blazers jumped to a quick 10-2 lead, controlling the pace of the set with 15-6 and 20-9 leads over the Storm, eventually winning 25-14.
The second set began with a similar tempo as CSB began with a 10-5 lead with junior right side hitter
Amber Wortz (Fairfax, MN, Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop) contributing three of her total service aces. The Blazers went on to win 25-9.
A 7-0 run helped CSB start strong, putting consistent pressure on Crown and eventually winning 25-11.
Senior outside hitter
Emma Jaynes (Hibbing, MN, Hibbing) led the Blazers with 11 kills, eight digs and a .526 hitting percentage. Senior
Beth Hanson (Faribault, MN, Bethlehem Academy) added 25 assists. Wortz also had nine digs to compliment her six aces. As a team, CSB had 13 service aces and a .274 hitting percentage, the highest of the season.
The Blazers continue tournament play as they take on Presentation College at 7 p.m. tonight.
