Blazers Defeat 2nd Place Concordia

The College of Saint Benedict basketball team defeated Concordia 92-79 in Moorhead this afternoon.  The Blazers, who are now 16-2 in the MIAC, maintained sole possession of first place in the MIAC with the win over the Cobbers, who are in second place and 14-4 in the conference.

CSB jumped off to a 11-0 lead in the firs three minutes of the game.  The Blazers kept the lead despite the five times the Cobbers tied the score.  Concordia grabbed its first lead at 27-26 with 7:30 remaining.  The rest of the half consisted of eight lead changes, but the Cobbers held on 44-41 heading into halftime.

Three minutes and four more lead changes later, Concordia still had the lead.  The lead remained in their possession until eight minutes were left in the game, when the Blazers held the lead for good.  They finished the game with a 92-79 win over the Cobbers.

Sophomore wing Amy Stifter (Watertown, MN, Watertown-Mayer) led the Blazer scoring with 20 points, 15 of which came in the second half.  Senior forward Ariel Tauer (Edina, MN, Edina) added 14 points, while sophomore wing Joelle Waytashek (Lino Lakes, MN, Centennial) and sophomore post Danielle Frank (Caledonia, MN, Caledonia) also chipped in 13 points.  Frank also grabbed 12 rebounds.

Up next travel to Minneapolis, Minn., on Wed., Feb. 11 to take on Augsburg at 7:30 p.m.
