Blazers Defeat Gustavus, Finish Regular Season 20-2 in MIAC

The College of Saint Benedict basketball team defeated Gustavus 60-50 today in St. Peter, Minn., giving the Blazers their 12th consecutive win and finishing the MIAC regular season with a 20-2 MIAC record and 22-3 overall.

The first half consisted of nine lead changes, with neither team having a margin greater than five points throughout the entire 20 minutes.  The Blazers and Gusties exchanged basket for basket for most of the half, with Gustavus leading 24-22 heading into the locker room.

The second half began much like the first, with four lead changes in the first eight minutes, ending with a 35-33 Gustavus lead over CSB for the next five minutes.  With seven minutes remaining on the clock, the Blazers found their final lead and quickly extended it to 52-43 with 4:30 on the clock.  The game ended in a 60-50 Blazer victory.

Sophomore wing Amy Stifter (Watertown, MN, Watertown-Mayer) was the spark CSB needed, scoring 13 of her 15 points and draining all three of her 3-pointers in the second half alone.  Sophomore wing Joelle Waytashek (Lino Lakes, MN, Centennial) added 13 points, while sophomore post Danielle Frank (Caledonia, MN, Caledonia) grabbed nine rebounds.

Next Thursday, Feb. 26 the Blazers host the MIAC playoff semi-final round at 7:30 p.m.  Opponent to be decided.
